Across the Top of Italy in Style

Food, history, style and scenery combine together in this unique trip right across the top of Italy. First we visit Piedmont in the West, the gastronomic king of Italy, to savour the local Piedmontese cuisine eating in local restaurants.  Staying in the Tenuta La Romana http://www.tenutalaromana.it/ , a beautiful farmstead located between vineyards and fields is the perfect location to visit Pollenzo the home of the slow food movement, which promotes a return to traditional methods of cooking and food production.  We visit Alba, a mediaeval city of narrow winding alleys and home to the world renowned white truffle. September is right in the middle of the harvest when we will visit the  truffle hunters house and take a short walk in the woods with trained dogs to seek out this delicacy. We also look forward to a tasting accompanied by local wines.

We then transfer to the shores of the magnificent Lake Garda where we will be staying in the four star Hotel Desenzano,  ideally situated at the Lake for our visits to Venice & Verona.  Stretching between the Alps and the Dolomites the Lake embraces a diverse scenery. Sheltered in a natural sun trap the area around Lake Garda enjoys a warm climate. We will have time to tour the lake and just a short distance away is the romantic city of Verona. The city's real and multi-layered history is apparent everywhere you turn. From the Romans to Mussolini and the great artists and architects of the Renaissance, Verona's streets, houses, churches and piazzas combine to tell the fascinating story of this small, but hugely significant, northern Italian city. Oh yes, and there's a famous balcony too. Our base at the lake is the perfect place to spend a day in the beautifully scenic Dolomites where you will an opportunity to enjoy some of the most magnificent scenery .

No trip across the Top of Italy would be complete without visiting Venice, a unique city of immense beauty. Venice is comprised of an intricate network of calm canals and pedestrianised lanes linked by ornate bridges, best explored on foot with its wealth of historic monuments.
