Argentina & Brazil

A culturally diverse tour that takes you from Buenos Aires - the Paris of the South, more European than South American in flavor, it is a city that boasts bustling streets, grand avenues, old-time cafes and stylish restaurants. It's a city of tragedy and elation; a vibrant, cosmopolitan capital where locals are renowned for their flair.

We then travel into the North west of Argentina where, in colonial times, the densely populated northwest was the River Plate’s link to the Viceroyalty of Peru and to Spain.  The northwest has a rich legacy of this past, in the way of invaluable indigenous ruins and works of art.  Its most beautiful places are La Quebrada de Humahuaca, The Calchaquíes Valleys, Salta city & the Salinas Grandes at Jujuy. The areas around Cafayate can boast distinctive high-altitude wines, including what most consider to be Argentina’s top Torrentes. The inhabitants of the Argentinian Puna, in the northwest, also still proudly maintain numerous ancient traditions they maintain the cult of "Pachamama" giving thanks to Mother Earth who makes the "maize grow and livestock multiply" even though they are, simultaneously, profoundly Christian. They sing and dance to the rhythm of their folkloric instruments: the charangos, quenas, erkes, cajas and bombos; they weave the wool of the vicuñas, sheep, and llamas, making blankets and ponchos, and sometimes talk in Quechua, the language of their forefathers.

From here we fly to the jaw-dropping sight of Iguassu falls where the 275 falls are over 3km wide and 80 metres high, which makes them higher than Niagra and wider than Victoria, and more beautiful than both.  Iguazú Falls, called Foz do Iguaçu in Brazilian, and Cataratas del Iguazú in Spanish, lie on the Argentina - Brazil border and are a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.

From here there is only one place left that can match it for spectacular scenery. Rio de Janeiro is possibly the worlds most beautiful and spectacular city. An awe-inspiring city of contrasts. Impossibly steep granite mountains jut out of the ocean between glorious stretches of golden sand, impeccable colonial buildings nestle in between modern glass skyscrapers and verdant forests tumble down hillsides into densely populated residential areas. It is a city high on life, a city of beach worship, football, samba and Carnival. And high above all this fun and frivolity stands Rio’s ever-present, iconic landmark – the statue of Christ the Redeemer.
